The Rev. Dr. Michael Slayter has done it again: written a superb novel with an intriguing plot, believable characters, and a writing style that keeps the reader engaged throughout the entire book. His first novel, Kisatchie Voices, was a real treat, and he has outdone himself with this one. The author has taken his two passions, being a veterinarian and a Commissioned Presbyterian minister, and created two very believable characters who happen to be brothers. His credentials for these two people are obviously impeccable. The elements of the plot are peeled back like the layers of an onion to keep the reader in suspense until the very end when everything is neatly tied up. (The onion analogy also works for the lacrimal secretion that are likely to occur at certain points in the narrative). I highly recommend this novel. You will not be disappointed.
